ALEX GOODE - POWERBAR ATHLETE INTERVIEW

Describe to us a typical day for you?

Typical day would be skills at 10:00, which is passing, kicking, breakdown, defence. Then gym from 11:00, which will be weights and maybe a boxing session for me. Lunch at 12:30 followed by a meeting at 1:30 where will do a review of the last game before going outside for training at 2:15 to have a team session for 70 minutes. I mite then get a rub if I'm tight in any areas.

How much time do you spend doing weights compared to doing cardio?

I'd say it's generally a 50/50 ratio really as we do weights every morning we're training but will always be outside running in our sessions. But I like to be very aerobically fit and will do at least one extra cardio session and one extra off feet fitness session (boxing, cycling, rowing).

How strict is your diet and how controlled is it?

I follow some key principles with my diet and that controls my fat percentages very well and also helps me maintain my weight and develop muscle. In a nutshell I will limit my carbohydrate intake, get a higher quantity of good protein sources and try and eat fruit and veg with every meal.

Which PowerBar products are your favorite and why?

Before training I use charger to really pump me up and give me the lift I need to push myself to the limit. I love the vanilla-coconut protein plus bars, as after training it's important to repair your muscles so you can recover and develop. Lastly the Whey isolate PowerBar is a market leader in terms of quality whey, its purer and finer than anything I have tried before. In general though I've found the PowerBar products have been very easy to consume before, during, after training and taste amazing.

Biggest Career Highlight to date?

I think winning the Churchill cup with England Saxons over the summer was my biggest highlight.

How do you stay relaxed in a high pressure situation during a match?

I generally stay pretty relaxed before matches anyway so when I'm out there I just try and enjoy the environment. I've always seen playing rugby as have fun with your mates, whether professional or not, which keeps me smiling and enjoying it.

Future Aspirations?

I would love to be part of the England squad for next years world cup, but then top stay there and be part of England for a long time. Also I think playing in a winning Lions series is the pinnacle for a rugby player.
