Founded

  • The Harlequin Football Club was founded in 1866 (although the first recorded game was not until 1867) as Hampstead Football Club and renamed in 1870.




Ground

  • In 1963 Harlequins moved to the Twickenham Stoop – named after former Quins player who was largely responsible for developing modern back play. Stoop has been developed and now houses 14,600 spectators.




Achievements to date

  • Previously won the RFU’ clubs knockout comp twice, the European Shield 3 times and the Middlesex Sevens 14 times

  • To be the best that we can be and get as far as we possibly can in the LV= and Heineken Cups plus finish as high as possible in the Aviva Premiership

About John Dams

Originally from New Zealand, John Dams graduated from Otago University in 1998 with a BA in Physical Education. Having majored in Exercise prescription and management, he worked with Otago Rugby Union before moving to Wellington in 2000, where he was contracted by both Wellington Rugby and Wellington Cricket team. He joined Wellington Rugby full time in 2002, and then moved to Leicester to work with Leicester Tigers in 2004.

After working with Tigers for four years, John joined Harlequins in February 2008.

John's main job at Harelquins is to get the players in the best possible shape physically to play the best rugby they can. He covers all areas of preparation and recovery, including working on strength, power, speed, nutrition, conditioning and rehab. He is in charge of the post training and post match recovery, and delivers status reports to the coaches accordingly.
